The first idea: from AI experimentation to governed production
Who it would be for
Platform owners, data science leads, product managers and delivery leads inside regulated or complex organisations who have machine learning or generative AI work that performs well and cannot get into production.
If the blockage is modelling, this would not help. If the blockage is everything around the model, it might.
The problem it would address
Most organisations are not short of capability. They are short of a route. Work reaches a certain point and stops, and the stopping is usually attributed to governance being slow or engineering being under-resourced. Neither is normally the cause.
The cause is that no artefact describes the path from experiment to production service, so every team discovers it independently and pays for that discovery in elapsed quarters.
What someone would leave with
A promotion pathway they could actually operate in their own organisation: the control map, the gates in sequence, the artefacts each gate needs, and the ownership model that keeps it current. Not a framework to admire. Something to put in front of their own control functions next month.
Draft outline
A working draft, and it will change.
- Mapping the control landscape. Which functions apply, when, and what each is trying to establish.
- Designing the promotion gate. Separating control authority from path ownership.
- Making governance a path rather than a wall. Sequencing, and elapsed time versus wasted time.
- Evidence and artefacts. Specifying what each gate needs in advance.
- Extending the model to generative AI. What carries across, what breaks, what is unresolved.
- Operating it at scale. Maintenance, decay, and the second and third instance.
