Experience

Technical product ownership of an enterprise ML and AI platform in regulated banking, and the roles behind it.

12+ years across software, data and product. Today I own the platform other people build on.

A shorter statement of what this site is for is on the Start here page. This page is the narrative in between.

Technical Product Owner (Service Owner), Enterprise ML & AI Platform

Westpac New Zealand · March 2025 to present

Product management for the bank's shared ML and AI platform: vision, roadmap, prioritisation, success measures, quarterly planning, cost forecasts and tenant cost showback, and the route to production for ML and generative AI across six control functions. Drove the route to production for the bank's first enterprise ML model: it handles around 3 million customer transactions a day, and several business areas reuse it for analytics and customer processes. Own the Westpac side of the Microsoft delivery partnership for the Azure platform, run onboarding and enablement for the teams that use it, and lead and coach the cross-functional squad that builds and runs it.

Acting Service Owner / Data Engineer, Enterprise ML Platform

Westpac New Zealand · December 2023 to March 2025

Owned the platform's backlog and priorities, led the ML and AI governance framework proposal (co-authored) and turned it into one route to production, and was part of the team that moved the data science workbench into Engineering.

Data Engineer, Enterprise ML Platform

Westpac New Zealand · March 2021 to December 2023

Data engineer on the bank's first enterprise ML use case, responsible for the AWS data and ML pipelines behind the bank's first ML model in production, with controls and an audit trail built in alongside Cyber Security, Risk and Privacy.

Co-Founder & Product Manager

Sixth Official · 2020 to 2021

Co-founder and product manager of a sports analytics company building a single view of player performance for amateur rugby, drawn from wearables, phones, on-field GPS and physiotherapy records. Led discovery, MVP definition, roadmap and pilot delivery, working directly with coaches to validate what was actually needed rather than what was interesting to build. Ran a live pilot with a club rugby side, leading a cross-functional team I recruited.

A year of doing product with no institutional safety net teaches things that a year inside a large organisation does not.

Data Scientist

The Clinician · 2020 to 2021

Data scientist at a digital health technology company, concurrent with Sixth Official. Delivered analytics and reporting capability used by clinical teams to track patient outcomes and support decision-making, working with clinicians, product and engineering.
